Raghav Arora, director of the DRA Group, plays both roles in this design project: the client and the person responsible for overseeing this contemporary design‘s family home construction. A collaboration between architect firm DRA Group and interiors by Studio Bruno Guelaff, this modern home not only pays homage to contemporary design, but is also a testament to Arora, and his family history.
Built over the course of two-and-a-half years, the Aroras’ luxury home is defined as much by natural light, durability and technology as it is by nature, despite the inclusion of water features and the use of walnut panelling. Four metre-high windows and a floorplan that shies away from the use of internal walls have also created a remarkable sense of space.
Arora’s desire to see the outside world is understandable. The view, especially from the rooftop terrace, is pretty impressive. Overlooking Montgomerie Golf Club and with Dubai’s skyline as a backdrop, it’s a spectacular sight.

Despite the scale of the modern home, this is very much a family home, not just for Arora and his wife Nikita, but for his parents and for his brother Abhinav’s family too. In total, seven people call this contemporary design home, with an eighth – Arora’s first child – due later this year. It was his father Deepak, who first arrived in the UAE in 1976, who built the company and remains its chairman. Abhinav, a civil engineer by trade, is a joint director.
The DRA Group has built over 110 contemporary design homes in Emirates Hills and the residential side of the group’s business now represents a third of its overall operations. The rest is still dominated by commercial buildings, showrooms, industrial facilities and retail centres – the staples that enabled Deepak to build one of the UAE’s most successful construction groups. In a way, the Aroras’ home is a showpiece. An example of what is possible.
“This is our own home and it gave us the chance to really express our ideas,” says Arora, who was influenced by the LA and Miami mansions he saw as a student.
More decorative examples of the family’s personal preferences are visible throughout. There’s a huge steel-and-copper light sculpture by Neel Shukla of Four Seasons Ramesh Gallery hanging in the living room and a nine metre-high painting by Sujata Bajaj in the entryway. Art inspired by Gustav Klimt adorns the living room wall and overall the interior feels uncluttered, almost minimalist.
For Arora, the goal is for the group to do more specialized projects. Contemporary designprivate residences like their own luxury home, with an emphasis on high-end quality rather than quantity. That means large residential villas designed and built entirely by the group – from the architecture and construction to the interior design and landscaping.
