1. Used 10 speed American Classic Carbon clincher wheels with alloyed braking surface 58mm rim depth, very aero and quick wheel set. Front wheel has a used Continental Attack 22mm tire and comes with 18 bladed Stainless steel spokes and Micro hub with ceramic hybrid bearings.
2. American Classic Carbon 40 Wheelset 40mm depth rims, Flat bladed AC spokes, 10/11 speed shimano freehub. Covered less than 1000 miles, brake surface in good conditional with only minimal expected wear. One or two minor scratches to the lacquer. Running perfectly true.
3. The Carbon 58 tubular (and clincher) is the recommended wheel for cyclocross, although lighter, better riders can use the 38. Weights for the 38 are 594g F / 776g R (1370g pair). Weights for the 58 are 612g F / 844g R (1458g pair). Check their full comments on using these for ‘cross in this post.
4. Lifting the wheels is a bit shocking as they look massive with tons of material but they weigh only 1600 grams. It was a bit surreal as the magic strength to weight ratio of carbon fiber really started to sink in. The front wheel was 715 grams and the rear was at 901 grams. So we went for a ride and reveled in carbon-tubular nirvana.

We saw these gems at last year’s InterBike Show, however, it wasn’t until recent that American Classic announced the availability of it’s new 40 All-Carbon clincher wheelset.

As the name might imply, the new wheelset features 40mm deep section. And, to keep trend with the increasingly popular approach to oversized rim width, the 40’s make use of a 22mm cross section. In addition, to greatly reduce overheating during prolonged periods of braking, AC uses a Basalt braking surface to help dissipate heat. Lastly, the wheels use there brand’s own hubs – laced with 18/24 AC bladed spokes.
